Darent Housing Co-operative blooms with successful Flower Day

Darent Flower Day 2026

Members of Darent Housing Co-operative came together recently for a vibrant Flower Day, celebrating community, gardening and co-operative living.

Around 25 to 30 tenant-members attended the event, enjoying a relaxed day filled with flowers, refreshments and opportunities to catch up with neighbours. A variety of stalls offered flowers and shrubs for sale, while refreshments helped create a welcoming atmosphere that reflected the strong community spirit at the heart of the co-operative.

The event was a great success, bringing members together to socialise, share gardening ideas and enjoy their shared outdoor spaces. It is one of many ways Darent Housing Co-operative continues to strengthen connections between residents and foster a sense of belonging.

Established in 1982, Darent Housing Co-operative provides 47 co-operative homes in the village of Sutton at Hone, near Dartford. As a fully mutual housing co-operative, it is built on the principles of participation, shared responsibility and democratic member control.

The co-operative is committed to creating a sustainable and inclusive living environment where tenant-members play an active role in shaping their community. Known for its friendly and neighbourly atmosphere, Darent has built a thriving, independent community that continues to demonstrate the benefits of co-operative housing.

The Flower Day is just one example of the activities organised to bring their tenant-members together. Looking ahead, the co-operative is planning another special event—a day trip to the beach, fully funded by the co-operative. The trip is another opportunity for members of all ages to enjoy time together and celebrate the strong community that makes Darent such a special place to live.

Events like these highlight how housing co-operatives provide much more than affordable co-operative homes. By encouraging participation and creating opportunities for neighbours to connect, they help build resilient, supportive communities where people feel a genuine sense of ownership and belonging.
