Fire Door Inspections – annual requirement
The Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022 mean that all fire doors must be inspected every year. This includes the front door to your home if you live in a building with internal communal areas, such as a purpose-built block of flats or a converted house. Flat doors are annual. Communal doors are quarterly.
Where MB Housing carries out planned maintenance to your co-operative, we will appoint an external fire safety specialist to assess the fire doors in your building. Our Maintenance Team will contact you closer to the time to arrange access.
The inspection will check that your fire door is:
- in good repair
- fitted with all required fire safety features in working order, including:
- door closing mechanisms
- intumescent (fire-resistant) strips around the door
- effective in preventing the spread of fire
These inspections are a legal requirement introduced following the Grenfell Tower fire in 2017, with the aim of improving fire safety in residential buildings.
